What drives you? Passion or Necessity

I stared at my laptop for some time before I wrote this content. I had an idea of what I wanted this to be about but I just couldn’t find the words.

Right there, yeah, right there is every writer’s nightmare.

I didn’t start writing because it’s something I love doing. Please, not everyone does things out of passion and if you know me, I’m one of those people.

I do things because they are a necessity not because I love them.

I started writing because I saw a gap in my class. We were given assignments in school and I do them without second thoughts. I sometimes delay my assignment to the day of submission. Smart people levels.

I noticed it takes some of my coursemates time to do theirs so I hopped in. I approached them to do their assignment for a fee and they agreed. That was the beginning of my writing journey.

I didn’t stop there. I wrote academic and non-academic projects for people. It was rolling in money. I ventured from academic writing to content writing.

Content writing is more fun because you get to express yourself. Academic writing is just a straight-up way of writing, it reminds me of my lecturers.

Again, not because I love it but because it was a necessity. Making an impact didn’t matter to me, paying the bills was more important.

The writer’s dream is to make an impact with our works, get the recognition we deserve and have the right clients.

I didn’t know all these till I started the game of being intentional.

I discovered that our words can make or mar an individual. A piece of wrong information read by someone can do more harm than good. No wonder the popular saying that the pen is mightier than the sword.

Switching to content writing wasn’t easy for me. It took enormous practice to be able to pen down my thoughts and let them flow in a way that people can easily understand.

I explored the world of writing from academic writing to content writing and now, technical writing. They all have something in common.

Research.

You can’t give what you don’t have. I started the game of being intentional because it was one of the things I learned in my relationship with tech. I became focused on giving out value. If it isn’t valuable, I won’t share it.

Value attracts value

A necessity turned out to be valuable and lovable. Now, it is beyond paying the bills. It is about giving value and making an impact. This should be every writer’s dream.
